NATURE EXPERIENCE, BIRDING Although Mosdene Private Nature Reserve is actually a 5 421 ha commercial cattle ranch, the owners allow bird-watchers and other natural history enthusiasts access to it on a limited and controlled basis. The property includes four main vegetation types; open vlei and flood plain, tamboti veld, dens seringa woodland and extensive thornveld. Several game species occur, but the main appeal of Mosdene lies in it amazing bird population; more than 400 species have been recorded here. Location: Southern part of the province; east of Naboomspruit. Access: From Naboomspruit take the R519 towards Roedtan and after about 10 km turn right into Boekenhout Road; the farm entrance is on the left after 2 km. All visitors should report to one of the homesteads on arrival. Accommodation: Camping only at sites indicated by the owner; R5 per night. Visitors are requested to take all their rubbish away with them, and to obey the reserve regulations. Other facilities: None. Open: Throughout the year Opening time: Sunrise to sunset, but visitors are permitted to arrive after dark by prior arrangement with the owners of the reserve.
